This is the form of the desk legs. Here is one that is only tacked together. A second will be made. Then long pieces of metal will go between the legs. Having the template made the assembly much quicker than I had thought. The final welding needs to be completed and then paint needs to be chosen.
Welders and Plasma
Since the woodworking part of the desk project is complete, it’s time to move on to the legs. Metal was chosen as the material. This means welding. I have not had much time to spend with a welder since moving into this house. I haven’t TIG welded since June 2017. The welding cart was pulled out and argon was hocked back up to the AHP Alpha TIG 200. Soapy water was applied to all the fittings. Bubbles were made and a wrench was used to eliminate the bubbles. The bubbles were little leaks which showed the fittings needed to be tightened a little bit more. Everything is dusty and needs cleaned. Soon there will be welding.
Fronts
These drawer fronts were challenging. As a result of needing to make them thinner to make up for a design flaw of the drawers. The screw that were put in the fronts don’t have much to bite into. Thankfully the none of the pilot holes accidently went through the fronts. A bit of glue was put in each pilot hole and then the screw. Hopefully it holds. If not, the whole front may be attached with a bunch of glue rather than screws.
