Custom gift tags is extra special touch for someone to show you care. It’s not always how much money we spend on someone. The time an effort often means more.
When looking at the different types of material to use in the 3d printer, I was surprised. Wood filament exists. Who knew? It’s 40% wood fibers mixed with the plastic. There aren’t really any changes to the settings to get it to print properly. I drew up some tags in SketchUp and thought I would give it a try. After printing, a light sanding made some of it look just like regular sanded wood. It was difficult to get in all of the hard to reach spots. I made a lot of them, and it was a lot of sanding. The next thing is to try staining. Also, I have read the color can change depending on the temperature of the print head. The warmer the material gets, the darker the wood fibers appear. Painting before sanding can also show a two tone effect. Maybe next Christmas all of those will happen.
